Since the introduction of PCs in 1984, during my career as a computer manager, I have supported friends and family in the use of their PCs and software. I discovered that there are many PC users who know little about their PC and as a result can only perform very basic tasks. I also found that with a little personal support, users often manage to utilize their PCs much better and with a lot more confidence. Examples are: e-mail use, internet use, working with digital photos, spreadsheets, presentations, creating a good looking document or installing your own software. Due to my findings I created a business to support and service home PC users.

Following is my computer background: Over the last thirty years I have worked for many large corporate companies. Starting in 1975 I worked in the computer departments of the following dutch companies: Internatio-Muller (cargo), Hudig-Langeveldt (insurance) and Bernard (electro-technical wholesale). When I immigrated to New Zealand in 1984, I started as Data Processing Manager at Hunter-Douglas (window coverings & architectural products). In August 1988 I joined the former Upjohn Company as Information Technology Manager. In this role I lead the Information Technology Department where I was responsible for maximizing and improving the effectiveness of the information technology used within the company. I enjoyed negotiating the best results for local business whilst conforming to global Information Technology direction and policy. I liked working in an environment where I was able to contribute to the creation and development of a new successful company. After successfully carrying out two mergers, first with Pharmacia and later with Searle, I chose voluntary redundancy in the course of a merger with Pfizer in 2003. At this stage I realized that after thirty years working in the corporate world I was ready for a change.
